Bubinga is a tropical hardwood that is fantastically stable with a tendency to create dust not shavings when turned. This piece came from a blank that languished in a now deceased turner’s garage for over 30 years ago that cost him £3.24p - clearly from a time before the all-pervasive dominance of the n pounds and ninety nine pence pricing strategy. The piece had to return to the lathe to make the body more symmetrical in the horizontal plane - it looked as if it had drooped a little before re-turning.
