Wet Turned Spalted Apple Bowl

Lindfield, Sussex, sourced Apple wood with early signs of spalting and the lovely rich hues of Apple wood. This piece was turned while it still had a high moisture content which has led to substantial movement after finishing from a round to an oval cross-section. The nicks in the lip are where pith has detached during drying with initial cracking has been stabilised by black cyanoacrylic adhesive. The pale, heavily de-nutrified patch of fungal attack (spalting) shows evidence of woodworm. The timber has been fully treated and turned thin to ensure no woodworm are present in the finished piece.
