Turkey Oak has a wild grain, unlike English and European Oak species, and lacks their significant medullary rays. In place though is a wonderful river of grain reminiscent of a Mackerel's back. This piece has a dash of bark retained at one edge which provides contracts and context from where in the tree the piece was sourced. Sealed in food safe mineral oil, this piece will slowly darken over time taking on a russet tone. Despite the blank having been air dried for several years, there is a mild warp to the rim as it dried through the creative process - another Turkey Oak trait.
