Bog Oak Dish I

Bog Oak is formed when an Oak dies and becomes submerged in iron rich water - e.g. fenland or peat bogs. The tannins in the Oak react wth the iron turning the wood a fabulous deep brown/near black colour over hundreds or thousands of years. This dish ranges in colour from mid tan to dark brown black with a hint of blue smoke, has a rolled lip and a constant curve across the surface of the dish. Stabilisation of one area of the rim by filling deteriorated areas with aluminium powder in resin adds extra individuality to the piece. Finished in food safe mineral oil.
